To provide valuable information
to companies in the professional cleaning sector, SCA and its global hygiene
brand Tork organized a roundtable within the framework of the ISSA / Inter clean
fair in Amsterdam to identify the challenges and opportunities that are
detected in the industry.

Leading representatives of the
sector participated: Doro thee Stein, Head of Facilities of the Dubai Airport
Company; Andreas Lill, director of the European Federation of Cleaning
Industries (EFCI); and Michelle Marshall, founder, and director of the European
Cleaning Journal (ECJ). These are the three key trends identified by the

1.    The technological direction is here to stay

The sector is at a crossroads:
technology, which is already the primary driver of the development of the
cleaning industry, will have completely transformed the industry within ten
years. Companies that do not adapt will be left behind. However, staying
competitive does not require reinventing the wheel: there are a lot of right
technological solutions already available.

Tork Easy Cube, a digital service
that provides information in real time on the needs of cleaning and replacement
of the spare parts in the toilets, is a good example. It was in the beta mode
when it was introduced in 2014, and today it is a complete service that has
already allowed numerous clients to adopt new and more efficient working
methods, supported by studies that demonstrate its transforming effect on
cleaning efficiency and motivation. Employees.

2.    Social sustainability: the most important
thing is people

While continuing to talk about
sustainability, participants in the roundtable insisted that the focus is
shifting from an environmental perspective to a social one. People constitute
the core of professional cleaning and represent 80% of the costs of the
industry. In a sector that has traditionally had problems attracting and
retaining talent, those who take better care of their employees will be those
who achieve long-term success. Fortunately, new innovative products like Tork Easy
Cube make it easier to obtain, by increasing productivity and staff
satisfaction.

3.    From cost savings to added value

Finally, the experts agreed that
a repositioning of companies is necessary to take full advantage of
technological developments and sustainability efforts. Service providers need
to convince their customers of the value they create, rather than merely
offering low prices. This will make the customers more demanding, but they will
also be willing to pay more. Cleaning companies need to become partners with
their customers and help them develop and raise the profile and image of their
businesses.

In Hondouville They Convert
Milk Bricks Into Toilet Paper

A factory of by-products

Essary has expanded its activity
to other areas that add value to its consumers, who are increasingly demanding
with the purchase of products that respect the environment. It not only
manufactures paper intended for hygiene, but it also recycles it as a previous
step. The factory integrates the manufacturing process of the paper pulp until
its transformation through the creation of the mother coils. Waste materials
are not thrown away: in the bricks, the cellulose sticks between two
polyethylene and aluminum films. They become Poly-Al, a substance that plastics
manufacturers can use to produce urban furniture or pellets. On the other hand,
in Hondouville another byproduct of recycled paper is obtained, which contains
calcium and talcum – Calcitonin is called -.

In Hondouville, Essity does not
intend to stop its environmental policy, on the contrary. This year, new
extractor hoods have been installed to recover more heat. Electricity
generation is 100% exported, and steam production is used internally at 100%
while 25% has reduced water consumption in ten years. All an example of
sustainable resource management.
