of the colonist was that they were unified because they were all under British
law so they all felt that they were united by of no longer wanting to be under
the ruling of Britain but rather be their own independence from them since they
had no representation. They felt that they all had equal rights to rights and
freedoms. While they were unified in many ways, they were also still very
divided amongst each other. The colonies were divided the taxation of goods, while
many saw it as something that was bad and unjust since they were under British
the British and the Continental army started to recruit black during Revolutionary
war because both felt it would be beneficial for them to join their army. In
the beginning George Washington did not allow for blacks to join the Continental
Army. The British however, declared that if any black slave were to come fight for
the British side, they would be offered freedom in exchange for their service. They
felt that by the slaves joining them it gave them an edge as the Continental Army
was not allowing for them to join their side. After Washington learned about
this, he decided to change his mind and once he did, Continental Army gained
5,000 more troops. Both felt authorizing
slaves would give them an advantage over the other side. But the slaves
benefited the most, due to the fact that no matter what side they fought for,
they were promised freedom.
felt that by them getting membership in the empire threatened their freedoms because
over time the government was slowly taking away their freedom. A prime example
of this when the colonies felt that it was unjust for the British to impose a
taxation of good upon the people in America as they were still under British
rule and were still technically their citizens. This was a huge shift from when
the government let the colonist live freely and peaceful but when the British
government went into debt, they felt that the colonies should have to pay the
tax as a way to support the troops they were providing to protect them that the
colonist never asked for.
The individuals in many of the colonies that were
of the upper classes, wanted to keep the social classes as they knew it. They
were to worried that as they began to transition into a democracy their statues
would go away and that everyone would be treated as equals and they were not
used to being on the same level as those of the lower class. They had to deal with
new issues of government involvement, trade among other countries, and how they
would continue to function as one newly formed country.
the American Revolution was something no country had ever seen before, it might
have shocked other counties but it also gave them hope. The Declaration of
Independence itself inspired others to write their own and declare freedom from
their rulers and that the many battles they fought, some won and some lost, all
resulted in their victory. It also
showed other countries that there were other ways to rule other than monarchies.
British believe while no one person should represent one specific part of any
area, but that parliament represented the whole area which was under English
rule, including he colonies. The American’s although, did not feel the same as
they believe that there should be a specific person from each colony to
physically represent them as since they were so far away and they couldn’t really
have a say on what was happening in parliament. The British felt that if the
colonies truly wanted to be represented, they would have to tax them for it for
example, the Stamp Act.
actions of the British Authorities helped unify the American Colonists by all
the implementation of taxes upon the American people. The Stamp Act was the
main one that solidified the unification of the colonist against the British
authorities because it affected all of the people in the colonies, ranging from
the filthy rich to the poorest man on the street. The colonies all rallied together
and decided that enough was enough and decided that anything that was imported
from Great Britain would be boycotted.
